DF! Reflection
As usual we covered a lot of practices. Fortunately this time there was some time allotted to retry Google Hangouts etc.
I am grateful that the 2 x guest speakers on Google Hangouts were more focused on our learning needs ie. actual, useful methods on computers, vs. a philosophical discussion about Manaia Kalani's history: that was somewhat interminable in Week 1.
I enjoyed getting a snapshot of wider practices by Kent Somerville = drones, Live Streaming, changes of YT policy etc. The explanation of 'embedding' was useful. re prioritising slides, stopping kids 'surfing' other stuff on YT etc.
Various conceptual ideas made me think about my own teaching, by AnneSinclair, viz: METACOGNITION; SiSoMo; the concept of EXPLORATION time; the use of practical/ artistic work to deeply imbue students with actual learning. I enjoyed Anne's quote of: "If it's not worth Sharing, was it worth Doing?" - I will steal that to prompt some tamariki.
I especially enjoyed some work done on Google Drawing, and later on Google Slide, and did some useful developments of those areas.
The requirement to do a Shared post (with Edwina and Scott at distances) on Google Handout had it's hiccups, but we eventually did a good sharing. CWE

DFI BLOG comments and images 2020
Thank you for your efforts today. There was a lot to absorb, but thank goodness for able women... including Andrew (tee hee!).
I learned a great deal, and even experimented outside of Vanessa and Kerry's directions when making a shared video for the blog: that's a big step forward in confidence for me!
I believe it'd be useful to:
1. set a couple of "Homework" exercises/ follow ups / form a Checklist
2. do a quick "warm up" at the beginning every new Session, where we collectively demonstrate some of the new skills acquired. That would marginally create LESS QUANTITY, but arguably MORE QUALITY.
I do not believe ALL learners Navigate computers comfortably, or know all of the basic Keys, icons, buttons or shortcuts. Would a PRINTED PAGE of useful DIAGRAMS per session (no more than 6x examples!) be useful?
- I am for instance not a touch typist, and plod through keys and typing - but do get there! But that creates a schism - while I am typing, I cannot hear all ongoing recommendations. So it is important to demo exercises/ shortcuts etc. but ALWAYS follow up.

DFI CORE BUSINESS
Training today with Kerry BP, Vanessa and Donna.
Why is my hair so yellow?! It should be white- with new stress.
We had a deal of trouble downloading a practice image (above) from a Doc to here.
I used the SNIP tool for the 1st time. Cntrl- Shift - S and the combinations of Function + F11. Kerry BP gfigured out a too complex way for me to digest.
